matt hayden has said that he plans to encourage development of indigenous cricketers...hope he turns up and lends his support...
These indigenous sporting carnivals are a great way of showcasing talent and engendering respect...a couple of kooris I know played in the Indigenous Golf national champs held in brisbane last year...about 180 played

Re: Imparja Cup
I think Dizzy recognised his aboriginal heritage without actually acknowledging himself as aboriginal.

WA Split Twenty20 Double-Header at Imparja Cup
09/02/2009
The WA Indigenous XI has split their Twenty20 double-header on the opening day of the Imparja Cup championships in Alice Springs.
South Australia proved too strong in the morning match at Larrapinta, however WA bounced back in style against the host state, Northern Territory, at their home base Traeger Park in the afternoon game.
SA recorded a seven wicket win in game one after dismissing WA for just 67. Troy Collard top-scored with 16, while skipper Lewis Upton was unbeaten on 14. Thomas (3-4) and Karpany (2-10) were the best of the SA bowlers. SA reached 3-68 in reply, with Clint Dann (1-4) and Jayden Bennell (1-26) the only successful bowlers.
WA thrashed Northern Territory by eight wickets later in the day. After restricting the home side to 7-98 from their 20 overs, the visitors passed the target with the loss of just two wickets. Vice Captain Dane Ugle finished not out on 63, Bryce Ryder was unbeaten on 25, while Julien Feehan (2-9) was the pick of the WA bowlers.
WA backs up for another Twenty20 double-header tomorrow, taking on the ACT in the morning game at Albrecht and NSW in the afternoon at Larrapinta.

Re: Imparja Cup
Heard a report that Hayden was going to be at this comp. I'm sure there will now be a series of posts from Henry et al making jokes about children being sworn at and so on.

Re: Imparja Cup
WA on top at Imparja Cup
10/02/2010
Western Australia is on track in its bid to win a first Imparja Cup, heading to the top of the table in the national Indigenous cricket carnival being held in Alice Springs.
The Western Australians, under the coaching of former Australian Test spinner Bruce Yardley, remain the only unbeaten team after the round of four Twenty20 matches, Dane Ugle having a sensational tournament with both bat and ball thus far. WA also looked to have unearthed a star of the future in 16 year-old left-arm paceman Julien Feehan, who took 5-18 in the opening match.
Defending champion Queensland has found the going tougher in its campaign for a third straight Imparja Cup, however the perennial yardstick still remains in contention with a pack of teams one win behind Western Australia.
The individual performance of the Imparja Cup so far was Day 2's brutal innings of 108 from 45 balls from News South Wales batsman Jonathon Halloran. Halloran's knock included 13 sixes as New South Wales defeated Victoria.
Imparja Cup Scores:
Round 2: WA 4-123 (D Ugle 66no, L Ugle 32; Swain 1-10, Busk 1-12) b QLD 121 (Stout 61, Swain 19; Feehan 3-29, Nona 2-16); Round 3: WA 4-98 b Tas 8-96; Round 4: WA 8-128 (Bivens 33, MacAulay 22; Gorrow 2-7, Redpath 2-10) b NSW 77 (Halloran 42; D Ugle 2-4, K Ugle 2-13). Round 5: WA 2-124 (D Ugle 51no, Upton 30, Bivens 28no) b Victoria 7-122 (Gardner 36, Firebrace 34; L Ugle 4-33, K Ugle 1-5).
State and Territory Division Points Table after Day 2:
WA 16
NSW 12
SA 12
QLD 12

WA Continue the Winning Ways at Imparja Cup
11/02/2010
Western Australia is taking all before them at the Imparja Cup in Alice Springs, cruising to another victory at the national indigenous cricket championships.
WA crushed Victoria by eight wickets. Dane Ugle is mounting a strong case for player of the championships honours as he scored 51 not out off 33 balls.
WA surpassed Victoria's total of 7-122 with ease. Liam Ugle took 4-33 to do the major damage with the ball.
Meanwhile, Imparja Cup hosts the Northern Territory were experiencing a lean 2010 until they broke the drought in style against the ACT. Racking up a score of 5-243, they then dismissed the ACT for just 136.
In the rematch of last year's finalists, Queensland defeated Tasmania, and New South Wales had a strong win over South Australia.
