First net of the year
And my back feels like it's been repeatedly savaged by a hammer.
Maybe this year I might be good enough to join a team*.
* I hear the local pub's blind, quadruple amputee team is looking for a player, but I need some practice I think. Any of you lot play, or has osteoporosis ended your careers?

Re: First net of the year
Had about three or four indoor nets now. I'm at the age where I'm grateful I "bowl" right arm - that way I don't think I'm having a heart attack when I wake up the following morning with the whole of my right side seized up.
Batting is fun too in pre-season nets. Feet working fine, bat coming down straight, front arm bent, eyes level, weight distribution good. Now I just need to put all of those together and I'll be sorted!

Didn't expect you to react to that Gwoody. It was a genuine claim, not a cry for help.

I can't help it if I am sensitive.
I was piss poor too - but I still played lots. You just have to find a comp that it is as crap as you.

Won't get any better unless you play though, will you? If you aren't very good, it doesn't mean there's no place for you in a club. For one thing many have several elevens and it's all about finding your level, for another people improve. A young lad at our club was hopeless three years ago, now he's on the verge of the first team. That's extraordinary, but so impressive. He's just worked his balls off.

Hah - you put it a lot better than me!
Thing to always remember is that if you aren't a professional, then by someone's standards you're going to be a completely crap player. It's purely a question of degree. I doubt Sachin would look at me and think "Cor, he's good". He'd think I was utter, utter shite.

Yeah, it's one of my mini pursuits for the future. Knowledge of the game probably increases when you actually start throwing down the leather.

plus you can say "I have played the game xx years so my opinion is more valid than yours" on cricket forums

Exactly, quite right!
The level doesn't actually matter anyway. But playing does give a different insight, as in any game.

Also makes you wonder how those little fellas on the boggle box actually manage to do it so often.
It also makes you believe that Monty is a genius as most of us could never land it in the same spot 6 deliveries per over.
