I'm using Avast, it's free and pretty good in terms of detention rate and scanning speed.
There's also AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials which i hear good things about.

Re: McAfee - See You Next Tuesday
Yeah Henry, I trialled the free version and it was pretty good. Certainly found and blocked more threats than those qunts at McAfee, but the farkin pop-ups associated with the free version p!ssed me off enough in the end to make me buy the full licensed version. It was pretty damn cheap, and when the $Aus was at its peak.
With McAfee I ended up with some qunt of a bug that wouldn't let me go to the 2nd page of any Google Images search. Fixed it with Avast but.

He had a weird accent, taips. Sort of a psuedo-yank accent, prolly a Bannie who'd been trained to sound a bit yank.

I would have said "Vikas, ya ol' qunt, how's it hangin'???". He would have said "skully??" and hung up.

I probably would have said "sorry Vikas ol' bean, I don't get the Bollywood sense of humour" and he still would've hung up, probably after demanding an apology from taccy.

I use McAfee & if you go to the 'Your Account' section, it gives you the choice of switching off the auto renewal.

Norts is even a bigger resource hog than McAfee.
...and Avira is now considered to be the best free program.

I use what seems to be a little known brand called Sophos. Seems pretty good to me.
