Aye. It was a crime on society to phase out Beta. Cool

I can't even remember how to set a video any more. Something fiddly and complicated and requiring a bit of guesswork and caution incase the show over-runs or is moved in the schedules.

PVR. Click. Done
.

Don't move to Australia, Jay. TV shows on commercial networks here always, but always, overrun. And the PVR makes f-all difference. It records the 'scheduled' time, not the actual time.

So you record the show before and the show after. Simple.

Which kind of defeats the purpose of 'one touch recording'.

The feature I really loved on VCR's was the 30 day/30 event feature.

Unfortunately I could never find a tape long enough

Sweet Jesus. Are your PVRs no more than a slight technological upgrade from the calculator watch? In the U of K the broadcasters send out a digital signal when a programme is about to begin, regardless of how on or off time it is, and that's what the PVR responds to. It's intuitive. Sort of.

It is mostly the same here too. Also, there is a "Add 20min" function for anything you tape.

I don't bother with any of that stuff anymore. There are few programs worth recording these days & i could never find time to watch them anyway.

So what you're saying is, Zat doesn't know how to use his PVR properly...

No, what you said was correct. There's no digital message sent out at the start or end of programs here. The commercial stations don't want you to record programs, because then you can skip through the ads. Even on the pay-TV box at my place, it goes on time, not actual program start and finish. Fox Sports was actually running promos a year or so ago suggesting to people that they 'add some time at the end when recording a sports event so you don't miss the playoff in a golf tournament or extra time in a football match.' I kid you not.

Which is one reason why, per head of population, Australia illegally torrent-file downloads more TV than anywhere else on earth by a huge margin. I believe it used to be something like 1.7 times the next highest. My mate Bob* accounts for a fair whack of that every week.

This may have been mentioned- It only seems to be cricket where the Saffies choke. In other sports they're pretty solid. Haven't read the thread, Red style.....

It was funny how they put Woods straight to the top of the list of guys who were leading at -10. F*cking biased America rules the World broadcasters.

Poor old Rory. That WAS a huge choke. Good young player, though....If he can get his mind organised, he'll be World number 1 in two years.

They put Tiger on top because he had played more holes than the others. That has always been the protocol in listing golf scores.
