ICC Test rankings predictor - try it yourself

Post by Zat on Sun 17 Jan 2010, 10:03

It's at http://icc-cricket.yahoo.net/match_zone/test_predictor.php

GIven that South Africa and England split their series 1-1, and assuming that Australia will wrap up a 3-0 win over Pakistan between showers today, it gets interesting if Bangladesh can convert a good first day against India into a Test win.

A 1-0 series win to Bangladesh would see India lose 7 on its rating (and Bangladesh gain 23!)

Ratings would then be Australia and South Africa on 118 apiece and India on 117. The forthcoming South African tour of India would be a challenge for top sopt.

Well, if India beats BD 2-0, the only way for South Africa to take top spot is to win the series in India 2-0. If Bangladesh takes a single Test off India, then a 1-0 series win to Jaapan would be enough.

That's not surprising. The 2nd ranked team only managed a draw with the 5th ranked team, and the 4th ranked team beat the 7th ranked team comprehensively.

Mebee. Just seems odd that retaining the Ernie Els trophy cost the Yarps 2 points. shrug

I predicted a 2-0 victory to India over the Bangers, a 1-0 victory to India over the Saffies, a 1-0 victory to NZ over the Bangers (I thought one off tests had been abolished?), a 2-0 victory to England over the Bangers, and 1-1 draw between NZ and the Aussies.

The rankings don't change much with those predictions.

Interesting to see what pitch concoctions the Banindians come up with in the upcoming 1 v 2 battle.

The predictor has a Saffie series win changing their respective positions.

I reckon they'll be good for batting but take turn. They wont allow Steyn and Morkel to run riot.

I reckon they'll be roady roads laid by Street Lane McHighway. A drawn series still sees the Banindians retain no. 1 spot.

Then again, a couple of bunsens could lead to a Bhajji-athon for 2-0. If Aus swept the Snoozers that would drop the Yarps to 3.

Yeah 0-0 seems to be the best result for Banindia. It keeps them top, Saf 2nd and the vile racist kangaroos 3rd.
