I think Parra used to do something fairly similar to Manly during Finals in the eighties. a couple of times. Lose heavily in a minor final and then comfortably win against them in the GF.

How stupid is it that if the minor premiers lose in the first week, they then have to play a team that finished as low as 7th away in the second week?

In the AFL they may have to play a team that finished as low as 8th

And that's the way it should be, h.

22 to 26 weeks of hard slog should not be able to be thrown away due to a short bad patch by the high placed finisher or purple patch by lowly opposition.

I don't deem 5th "lowly", h.

Last year in the Leeeeg, the Slimey Eels bludged and bumbled their way through 26 rounds and scraped in in 8th spot. They hit a purple patch in the semis with that showpony farker Plain Jane Hayne having a couple of blinders, that enabled the useless slimey qunts to get to the Granny. Thank fark the Storm embarrassed the fark out 'em (and Hayne in particular) in the GF.

Of course, the Cheating Storm have now lost that title but amusingly it wasn't given to the Eels.
