Is Third Man necessarily a defensive position?

Post by skully on Mon 28 Dec 2009, 20:12

Fark I'm sick of seeing balls squirting through between 2nd slip and gully for 4. I reckon the Paksters have scored nearly 100 in their two innings through there.

FFS, this takes me back to Ashes 05. Mad

You would save three times the runs by taking the bloke from mid on & place him as you suggest skully.

All teams seem to be doing it of late. It maybe that the bowlers aren't bowling to the field but maybe they shouldn't have to worry about that gap.

We're advocates for a third man in my house. Always loved watching Skysports when I had paytv because Mikey used to get so frustrated about the lack of third man. Laughing

Speaking of frustrated husbands ... mine hasn't surfaced yet. Wonder if he's watching the cricket in bed? Suspect

agree it is frustrating to see nicks and glides going to the fence...

however not having a third man may encourage batsmen to take risks - of course this strategy is reliant on having a good keeper and a safe slips cordon...if tho the basman is safely nudging to the 3rd man boundary time to oput in the third man
