Fathoms works! A league as used by Verne means three nautical miles or 6,000 yards. That would be seriously deep!

TBH there are a forummer or two here who I wouldn't mind if they were gagged and tied up with ropes, packed in hard re-inforced bags, Tied to a huge boulder and thrown to drown in that deep......
