Wasn't really overrated. Just difficult to rate as he was never on the field for any prolonged period of time.
See also S. Jones, whose entire reputation is built on two and half Tests in the 05 Ashes.

Was a strange series from him, though - including getting dropped for the 4th Test.
Mostly a bit-part player in the five-man bowling unit, he was under-bowled a lot of the time: 1-39 (16 overs out of 110), 1-81 (18 out of 102), 1-36 (13 out of 86), 1-69 (18 out of 142), 2-15 (9 out of 70).
I think Jones was still considered an iffy pick with it all to prove, going into the Ashes. Then he cemented his place. Before never playing again...
