australia cancels bangladesh tour

Post by brockley on Tue 22 Dec 2009, 12:18

The money generated by ODIs is also having an adverse impact on cricket's growth, with Australia cancelling a two-Test series against Bangladesh in Cairns next year, but squeezing in five ODIs against England after the re-scheduled Pakistan Test series in June-July.

Cricket Australia is really no worse than the BCCI.

Why should Australia waste their time playing Bangladesh? We all know it would be no contest and Bangladesh would probably benefit more from playing Australia A - it would be a modicum more competitive (But Australia would still win)

The Bangers nearly won a test match last time Aus toured. That included TGM.

Was that the one tacked onto the end of the Ashes in 2005 where a depleted Australia had to rely on Jason Gillespie to score their double centuries for them?

Most teams field a virtual second XI or a distracted and half-hearted first XI due to the punishing international schedule.

There have been a few exceptions, the likes of Kallis, Bell and Murali have always saved their best for those 'Test' Series.

Why not concentrate on having proper 4 or 5 Test series between Australia and teams like South Africa or Pakistan?

it was the 1st test in the series tacked onto the end of a SA tour . . . I think the guys landed 24 hours before the 1st test and played poorly for the first couple of days . . . Gilly rescued them, IIRC . . . .

Dizzy got his double ton in the following test, which was an innings defeat, again IIRC . .. .

Sorry, I respect Warne, not even sure why I took a jibe at him.

because, as always, you simply regurgitate whatever someone else has said at some time in the past . . . this occasion one of the subis . . . I don't want to insult either your mother or father (remember Demmy?) but you are a bit of a sheep, smerky . . .

A bit of a sheep? or I'd rather take back a mistake on something I said. Come on, I don't remember Demmy either, should I have?

Also, referring me to Vikas? Do I ever go that much overboard?

Just reminded myself of the stats - Jason Gillespie averaged 231 with the bat and 11 with the ball. And he was completely past it by then.

Winning by 3 wickets might seem like a narrow win but bearing in mind Ponting averaged 96 in that series and Gillespie 231 you could probably bank on them chasing down another 250 runs if required...

After Warne got over the jet-lag he bowled well. But as you'd imagine from a champion competitor like him he saves his best for the biggest games. This was an end of tour friendly in all but name.

Yes, Gary . . .and Punter would have got more but Dizzy ran him out . . . that's why Dizzy got the double ton, he was afraid to go back to the dressing room til punter hat cooled down . . .

If it had been Kallis he'd still have been fuming about it now.
