Who would you reckon would be great at single wicket?
Not being presumptuous but if you youngsters do not know what it is:
"One bowls to the other for a fixed number of balls, or until the batsman is out, and then roles are reversed. The remaining tournament players act as fielders until it is their turn to bat or bowl. The winner is the one with the most runs, and that player moves to the next round to play the winner from another pair."
Who from the present and from the past would be a legend at single wicket?
I suppose the simple answer would be the all-rounders of year and yesteryear.
I'd say that clearing the rope would be an advantage, the likes of Flintoff, Kapil, Afridi, Cairns, Beefy etc. But the bowling would need to be tops as well - could someone like Wane Sharne or Curtley Ambrose be the daddy?
Who from the distant past would be a master? Someone like Gilbert Jessop, Monty Noble, Aubrey Faulkner? Alfred Mynn actually played some top single wicket cricket.
Oh well, I must be bored.

Re: Who would you reckon would be great at single wicket?
Ahhhh, the single wicket comp. Always proposed when there's a gap in the season fixture list, and always by the all rounders within the club who can't understand why complete non-bowlers/batters (or keeper-batsmen like me!) aren't terribly interested.
It was always a gambling game, that's why it was popular 150 years ago - we've got countless examples in the club archives from the days when we were the most powerful club in the region. All-rounders won then, and no doubt would now.

Ah, nice man, so you've seen some scores etc? Quality.
Would they win though? The likes of Waqar, Macko etc. may only need one ball. That was half my point. Say Hayden versus McGrath - Hayden's medium pacers may not trouble McGrath for ages, he may only get 10, but who's to say that pidge just wouldn't knock his off peg with his 3rd ball?

Definately depends on whether it is a set number of balls or not. On the assumption that it is a set number of balls then from England Flintoff would be awesome I would think, tight aggressive bowling and ability to hit huge sixes.

Sure. I'm vaguely in the process of uploading all our matches prior to 1850 (some rotten bastard of a cricket historian noting this went and provided about 80 more matches I didn't know about, so it's taking forever) onto the club website - and there are several examples of single and double wicket comps with endless first class cricketers on there.
The trouble with them is that the non-bowling batsman is at a big disadvantage against virtually everyone else. A Glenn McGrath (or more realistically someone who can bat a bit, say a Brett Lee) will have little trouble whacking around rubbish spin from an Andrew Strauss, but has every chance of getting him out when the roles are reversed. So the all rounders are again the ones who do well.

I reckon someone like Hick would be very useful, good batter and had the proverbial golden arm.

Re: Who would you reckon would be great at single wicket?
The Trini's played a single wicket cricket tournament in Tobago last year as a warm up to the 4 day competition.
Dwayne Bravo, Lendl Simmons, Ravi Rampaul, Navin Stewart and Kieron Pollard all took part.
Lendl Simmons won it comfortably, beating Bravo in the final.
