This guy just doesn't want to STOP!

Post by PlanetPakistan on Thu 17 Dec 2009, 20:21

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Sports has recommended to President Asif Ali Zardari to remove the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Ijaz Butt, Chief Operation Officer Wasim Bari and coach Intikhab Alam over their absence from the recent NA meeting.
The committee, which met here at the NA secretariat on Thursday with Jamshed Ahmed Dasti in chair, was seeking an explanation from the PCB over the selection process of Pakistan Under-19 team and the No Objection Certificate (NOC) issue which had put Pakistani players out of the third edition of cash-rich Indian Premier League’s auction.

Referring to the national Under-19 team selected by the PCB, Dasti said the committee would like to see the fitness report of the players and the process on the basis of which it was selected.

'They [PCB officials] are not taking the committee seriously and these officials must be given a lesson because the Parliament of Pakistan is supreme,' said Dasti, an outspoken PPP legislator.

The committee has also recommended that a young and energetic team must be appointed in the PCB which can work for the betterment of cricket and run the affairs of the board more smoothly.

Meanwhile, the newly-appointed Federal Sports Minister Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani walked out of the NA committee session, saying he was not intimated about the meeting at any stage. 'I was neither consulted on fixing of date nor on the agenda' said Jakhrani.

The NA committee, meanwhile, has formed a five-member sub-committee to probe into a one-page draft carrying 28 allegations against the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) after getting a briefing from federation Secretary Ahmed Yar Lodhi.

Lodhi gave a detailed presentation regarding the past and current performance of the PFF. The committee, however, grilled Lodhi for not giving accurate answers to the questions raised by the legislators.

However, Lodhi remained quite firm in his stance, informing the committee over the success and failures of the PFF. 'The current team is the best talent available and if the PFF development initiatives continued at the same pace, we will be among the top 10 Asian nations soon,' Lodhi claimed in front of the committee.

At one point, Dasti asked Lodhi who was paying for the tours of the PFF President Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat? 'For the official tours and meetings of the PFF president the AFC and FIFA bears the cost' adding 'the affairs of the federation are being run on transparent accounting grounds.'

But despite his [Lodhi’s] positive and solid input the NA body formed a sub-committee to comprehensively probe into the so-called ‘degenerating’ affairs of the PFF.

However, the NA body could not reprimand the tennis federation officials, saying that the federation is already putting its best efforts to uplift the sport in the country.

Pakistan Tennis Federation President Senator Dilawar Abbas informed the committee that all the federation officials were working on honorary basis.

It never bodes well when politicians get involved in cricket. Trying to get people sacked just because they didn't turn up to one meeting speaks of an unbelievably large ego.

'They [PCB officials] are not taking the committee seriously and these officials must be given a lesson because the Parliament of Pakistan is supreme,' said Dasti, an outspoken PPP legislator.

What an idiot! Is he under 5 feet 8 inches tall? I ask because it sounds like he has a very serious case of 'small man syndrome'. Like a Jack Russell Terrier Very Happy
