What does cod taste like?

Is it like hake? (Need to know for an article.)

yep, pretty much, it's white and flakey, and fairly sweet. A more robust in taste and coarser in texture than schnapper . . .

Pretty tasteless - less saltier than hake - but flakey and sinewy though highly nourishing.
The perfect fish specimen to therefore batter up and dous in hot oil for a wholesome meal of fish n chips, as it's unlikely to yield as much attraction of say the prettily prepared and far tastier sea bass, trout or red snapper..

japanese 'black cod' however, is something special ... all down to the mirin, sake and miso though!!.

Cod doesn't really taste of anything but has quite meaty flakes which is why it's good with sauces or lashing of salt and vinegar.

wholesome is a matter of taste, I guess, but I thought Plaice (sweet water) was the one offered with chips. Cod (salt water) is more flaky and lends itself beautifully to a lemon/garlic lacing. Its medicinal properties aren't questionable.

Cod's a prince amongst fish. Loooooovely.

If you've had barramundi, then it's not dissimilar to that.

It depends on the cod.

Cod is nice, subtle taste (ie not much but what is there is pleasant, Hake is saltier and more "fishy"), but give me Haddock of Plaice over Cod any day please avec the aforementioned batter and chips (God I crave for that out here in the West Indies)

The poor old Atlantic Cod has pretty much been hunted to extinction. They serve "white fish" in it's place now.

Or it's plaice....

Yeah, it's mad how much cod costs now. More than haddock.
