Windies v Queensland teeny boppers, Warm up match

Post by WIFAN on Tue 17 Nov 2009, 13:38

The big news is that Gayle has had to fly home to be with his Mum who is seriously ill, so Ramdin is captain and likely to be so for the first test as well. Jerome Taylor is being rested.

Windies won the toss and are batting. The teams are:

Windies: Adrian Barath, Travis Dowlin, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Dwayne Bravo, Brendan Nash, Denesh Ramdin(c/wk), Sulieman Benn, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach.

Queensland: Ryan Broad, Nick Kruger, Wade Townsend, Lee Carseldine, Nathan Reardon, Chris Hartley(wk), Chris Simpson(c), Daniel Doran, Nathan Rimmington, Alister McDermott, Luke Feldman.

A disastrous start to the tour for the West Indies, Gayle flies home, his replacement leaves a straight ball and young Barath edges an outswinger to the keeper for a 20 ball duck.

Dowlin has been selected ahead of the likes of Darren Bravo and Runako Morton to reward him for his loyalty.

I should imagine Bravo Jr is very likely to be selected for the ODI's though.

Windies are 92/3 at Lunch, Chanderpaul and Sarwan performing a rescue act for the umpteenth time, though Shiv top edged a hook shot and went for 41. Apparently there has been quite a lot of assistance for the seam bowlers.

The loss of Gayle will be huge. Will he still be available for any of the tests?

They are not sure, it depends on his Mothers health.

I see that Billy Junior bowled to Shiv today. Billy Senior bowled to Shiv in a few JAMODIs in the mid 90s but they missed each other in the first class stuff.

Bravo tried to put a smile on the teams face, he hit 49 from 53 balls with 3 sixes.

Brendan Nash walks to the crease to face his old side with the score on 162/4.

Hmmm, not really the morale-boosting start to the tour that the Ganjas needed. Banjos 0-43 hunting down the Windies mediocre 271. No

Yeah looking at the FC records of this Queensland team, 271 is very mediocre and we should really be bowling them out cheaply as their best batsman averages 36.

Apparently Roach was a real handful and should have had at least one wicket last night if it wasn't for that well known malaise..... tour match umpiring.

I'm no big fan of Morton but he definitely should be here instead of Dowlin. Now that Gayle is gone we have one opener in the team.

Roach takes the first wicket of the tour for the West Indies with some very hostile bowling in tandem with Dwayne Bravo.

I'm really looking forward to seeing him bowl at the Gabba.

I'm not that surprised by this tbh. 3 dropped catches already, a very strong caught behind appeal turned down, 4 huge lbw appeals turned down. Having said that Benn is being tonked about mercilessly and hasn't even had an appeal yet. All in all great signs for the 1st test!
