looking at the facts, it seems harsh (ie a good series in england) but dravid really stuck out like a sore thumb in the aus series - he looked out of place and had the body language of a man who'd been left behind by the odi game. ganguly ought to be next to go imo - hopefully he'll retire himself but cant see gangers doing that.

gambhirs 20-20 heroics saving his place. badrinath or tiwary may have been the better choice.

what about this new guy praveen kumar - any good? been taking wickets in the challenger series but not very quick? but he is an all-rounder i suppose.

not very quick is his problem. bit like bose, i dont see them being too successful at the international level. 1st match 1st ball he bowled a HUGE inswinger, reminiscent of the pakistani u-19 bowler in that world cup final

Hardly the end for Dravid. He'll be back. Gautam Gambhir isn't going to keep him out for any significant amount of time. Or this could be the much touted rotation we've been hearing about.

Now, if they had picked Badrinath, he could potentially have been some kind of replacement for Dravid. Not Gambhir.

Praveen Kumar will not be the strike bowler. Wha works for him is the fact that he is a good enough bat to have opened for both UP and India A.

So we now have

Sachin
Sourav
Gambhir
Uthappa
Sehwag
Praveen Kumar

as openers in the squad. Rolling Eyes

atlast sehwag is in.

the selection of praveen is one of those *for show* that domestic performnaces are recognised.(joginder, bhupinder, dinesh mongia) but its a waste of time and annoying.

i don't see a problem in dravid continuing till the next WC until someone else like rohit shows as much solidity in technique in playing an anchoring role. But it does not hurt to give a try. Rohit certainly has potential.

Tiwary should have been in front of Gambhir. but then this selection comittee is likely to go by short term factors than strategic calls and vision.

Badrinath should have been in frot of everyone else. Praveen Kumar could be useful, he's much better than Joginder with the bat and probably with the ball too.

Tiwary, Rohit Shama and Parthiv Patel did look classy in the two matches, especially the first two.

yeah kind of weird. dropping dravid was a bold move, but kind of stymied by the fact they brought sehwag in as replacement. surely if they want to back youth sehwag was the wrong choice? esp with the surfeit of openers. what is going to be the batting order? maybe they should have gone with tiwary instead

It doesn't look right without Dravid not being there.

They'll regret dropping him. IMO he'll need the match practice for the Pakistan test series and later on the ever more testing, Australia 4 Test Series.

I'm sorry to say but yet again, BCCI have dropped the ball. Dravid is key to India's success.

Sehwag is by no means old. You're certainly not suggesting that the selectors shut the door on him? When he's in form, he's just c.l.a.s.s. So if he's back in form, it's madness to keep him out for long.

And he should be picked for the tests too. Shouldn't have been dropped there in the first place.

what has he done to suggest he is in form? to be picked in front of badrinath or tiwary?

It's a fair enough decision. India's ODI form hasnt improved since the world cup, whilst a group of vibrant young players showed what can be possible at the T20. At a time when Dravid should have been switched on and determined to prove that he belonged ahead of the younger players banging on the door, he looked dazed and disinterested.
