Duckhead. You don't order them. You get chatted up by them.

In Thailand, plenty of people call you 'farang'(foreigner), I can imagine a minor furore if we were to do the same.

Incidentally, if polite, you're supposed to add 'kap'(not spelt like that) on the end of a sentence if you're a bloke and 'kaa' if you're a woman. The shemales say 'haa'. So, nowadays, when ordering a 'Singha' beer - 'normal' people now just ask for 'sing' to not sound like a shemale. Silly.

farang (or firang was we subcons say) is hardly offensive is it? unless of course they call thai nationals that

only in thailand would you need to identify yourself as a male, female or shemale Rolling Eyes

No, I wasn't offended - and it's pretty obvious as well, being Saxon. Was just an observation that, maybe, it would be sensationalised a bit over here.
Just find the whole suffix identifying your sex thing weird, s'almost bound to happen with the number of shemales over there.

Never bothered me. Was a bit perturbed, however, to discover I share that name with a guava. Laughing

I think Singha means something along the line of "one lion". Anyway, adding "please" at the end has usually proved sufficient to get me courteous service in Bangkok. Wink
