what do people wear to the cricket?
Merls just mentioned he was about to put on his 'glad rags' for a day at the cricket
'
at the very least I expect he will wear his old school or MCC tie....a boater, white shirt, blazer grey slacks and brogues...
me - broad brimmed sun hat or old cricket cap, T shirt, shorts (if I am not in regulation toga) and sandals (roman)

Re: what do people wear to the cricket?
If I'm going to the cricket in Sydney I'll wear:
* A polo shirt with an upturned collar (to protect my neck).
* Some denim shorts - better than long pants and heavy enough to carry the weight of my wallet, phone, transistor radio and sunblock.
* Thongs. Although sometimes I wear Dunlop Volleys if I'm doing the pub crawl up Foveaux Street and its steep hill
* A floppy "bucket hat". Although sometimes I'll wear a baseball cap if I don't want to look too daggy.
When I was a member of the SCG ago I used to wear tailored long pants and classy shoes, but that was over ten years ago.
When I was at the Boxing Day Test in 2006 I wore jeans, a thick shirt, a wool jumper and was still absolutely freezing my tits off! It was colder than most of the football matches I've been to in winter this year!

necessary garb for the pavillion.
Regulations ...
And as Lord's a sell out, that's the only place I can be assured of getting a seat!
Prolly top tier, beside the open bar!! Another necessity!
otherwise, like you, on a hot day elsewhere other than the Pav ... dead casual, short sleeves, no tie, shorts, sandals ... and my "David Gower" floopy white cricket sun hat!

In the SCG members - collared shirt, long pants, casual shoes (and socks) and a cap. If it's a really hot day I'll wear nice shorts and sit in the Ladies or Noble Stand.

The Cricketers Club is slacks & no tie.
Otherwise it's tee shirt, shorts with bags of pockets, runners & a bloody big hat.

Yes, sitting in the sun in temperatures of 30+ degrees is certainly ideal for wearing pants.
What's not to like about being uncomfortably hot for 6 or 7 hours?
