So what's that? £166m on 3 players - shall we be hearing from Mr Platini?

Of course not. Fifa and UEFA seem to hate the PL for some reason.

Behold these comments from that idiot Blatter http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8125216.stm

What a numpty.

Madrid banking on their famous 1 - 5 - 4 formation then this season. Should be interesting, anyway. It will probably be a bit scary if they now go and spend £50m on centre-halves . . .

Well they have already spent 12m on 1 CB.

make that £178m on 4 - raul albiol (cb) signed for 12m too. might still get ribery.

and, surprisingly, platini has already spoken out:

I wonder what will happen if they manage to still not win anything, their defense and midfield is still weak and Barca are the best team in Europe atm, so their is a high chance they still will end trophyless.

Well well well, United are in the money after cashing in on Ronaldo and are now signing Wigan players and looks like the long past it Michael Owen on a free transfer...

The Owen free transfer could turn out to be a great deal to be honest. If he gets himself fit he will score a shed load of goals with the service he'll be getting at United.

I know that's a big "if" though.

What service? Now Ronaldo's gone, their attacking midfield looks empty.

Don't you just love people trying to outguess Fergie.

Not sure about that - his pace has totally gone. No amount of getting fit will bring that back.

But it's the kind of gamble United can afford to make. Could become a decent off-the-bench poacher in the Solsjkaer (how the f*ck do you spell it?) stylee, I suppose.

Disappointed that no-one in the Prem seems to have followed through with their rumoured interest and signed the fantastically named Rod Fanni.

Now Ronaldo's left our shores, the league needs a new front-bottom.

Ipswich have taken some Dutch winger called Rawley Rozendaal on trial.

Keep getting visions of a big-nosed Israeli.

Ronaldo never provided any service anyway. He will play pretty well with Rooney or Berbatov, and is a fox in the box despite his lack of pace these days.

I must admit it is odd. I have never been a fan of him, but it's a pretty good bit of business. If he does well it's a Fergie masterstroke, if not then it doesn't really matter as he was free with quite low wages.

Solsjkaer

Close enough, Solksjaer.

Either way, the midfield is the big problem for Fergie.
