Not in the same way, I should hope. Death by banana peeling seems to be an Eastern Cape speciality. (And even there, it usually isn't DIY.)

Not sure - haven't seen statistics. The Kwazulu Natal department of correctional services recently announced that, in order to limit the spread of AIDS in prisons, it will in future circumcise all prisoners, using a device that is clamped round the penis until the foreskin eventually drop off. Now that should be quite a crime deterrent...
