Averages 30 with the bat in his last 18 tests. He doesn't look as determined with the bat as he used to be. How often have we seen him getting out recently slicing a wild drive to gully?

There's a school of thought that a lot of the extra load he's shouldered over the past year or two in terms of his bowling has affected his concentration. He's also now well past his first bloom of youth and the years maybe finally taking their toll.

I don't think he's bowled that many more overs recently. He's always bowled between 10 and 15 overs per day.

He's played a lot of cricket over the years, both batting long innings and a lot of overs, it's bound to take its toll more quickly on him than on a pure batsmen like Sachin or Punter . . .

As a bowler he's probably felt the pressure of having to keep it tight at times and even try for breakthroughs when the wayward ones have been off song. When Pollock was around he could be relied upon to be the epitome of parsimony.

He appears to have got heavier which may be impacting upon his footwork. Maybe the reflexes are slowing. He does appear less patient though and will suddenly go for a starburst of shots which would have been uncharacteristic of his play several years ago.

I also posted some time ago that there have been many batsmen who have had purple patches over the past three or four years and his has simply passed.

So Henry, probably a combination of reasons but it's indubitable that his peak has been and gone.
