Gandhi auction draws US authorities' attention
from abc online
The American collector who is auctioning off some of Mahatma Gandhi's belongings says he is willing to negotiate with the Indian Government.
Indian authorities have demanded the sale of the items, including a watch and spectacles, be stopped as they are part of India's national heritage.
Mr Otis says the auction has even drawn attention from US authorities.
The Department of Homeland Security went to the auction house to inquire about the items, to try to get information, to try figure out what's going on," he said.
"The auction house denied much of the information.
"So I'm quite curious why the United States Government has now gotten involved."

pinky and TO - this was not a WU...gandhi is one of my heroes...I would be astonished if he would have given a rats about material possessions..equally I think he would be appalled by what has happened in subiville over the past 60 years

Since we're speaking for Gandhi, he would have been appalled by what's happening in large parts of the world, horrie.

these items were stolen from India, and this thief now summons the guts to assume the high moral ground when he could well himself donate some money to the poor instead of acting like a hostage taker who demands something in return for things of which he is not the legal owner.
and the current govt is such a lameduck to even consider entertaining moonbats like this one.
