Tasmania fast bowler Brett Geeves has been called into Australia's Test squad in South Africa as cover for Doug Bollinger, who suffered an abdominal strain while training during the Wanderers Test. Geeves will join the touring party on Monday for what will be his first overseas trip with the Australian team, while Bollinger will remain with the squad for the time being.

The left-armer Bollinger, who made his Test debut in Sydney, has been ruled out of the second Test in Durban but will be monitored over the next few days to determine if he has any chance of playing the final game in Cape Town. Bollinger was not chosen for the first Test in Johannesburg with the allrounder Andrew McDonald being preferred instead.

FFS, Tasmania is the new NSW when it comes to armchair rides into the test side.

Is Boonie on some sort of retainer with the TCA?

complete and utter phurt...toxics never get an easy cap...the Butler is in great form and will not let Australia down...

interesting the cameo offered by fleas in this match...batted like a crab in both knocks and was dismissed in embarassing circumatances in the 2nd knock...also field with the grace, dexeterity and speed of a rusted out massey ferguson tractor

Let's face it, if he couldn't bat he wouldn't get a look in.

...look the butler bowled well on an unforgiving wicket these past few days...

given we have an opener incapable of scoring against decent fast bowling - unless the track is a road - we need a a road...

what I will enjoy through this series is that fleas will continue to be exposed for the boring ftb he is...the guy has never won us a test but has cost us 2 wins (in the WI and Banindia) through selfish crabbing batting...he was instrumental in the loss of the ashes in 05 and I really hope that persistent failures in SA will result in the NSP growing a neuron and sacking him prior to the ashes tour...we cannot afford a passenger.

Geeves is a poor man's Hilfenhaus. And Hilfenhaus aint that great....

Has Steve Magoffin done some unmentionable things with the selector's wives? Statistically he is the outstanding Australian quick not currently in the test squad.

I agree with Henry - Magoffin would have been my preference (assuming Nannes, Harwood etc aren't fit).

actually the goat has a better record than mcMuffin inc a vastly superior strike rate...but I think the butler is more than worth a go

I think Magoffin is too much of a "wait" bowler for Test cricket ....needs to become more of a "make" bowler

Didn't Nannes deliberately fire off several beamers at the WA top order earlier in the season? Hardly suggests an ideal temprement for test cricket.

phurt...they were accidental and he was mortified...he is far more dangerous when he lands them...ask Bandy and various others ..

hilditch and the other harris tweed types have always been concerned by the impact ski instructors can have on wives and daughters...suspect this is why the goat will never get a look in...unless out of spite they select him - make him go to SA and make him 12th man when the Shield Final is on

Casson fired off a beamer in the Shield match and got marched too.
