Bit of both I think. We wouldn't be seeing 200-0 or 600 plays 700 if we had 1990s bowlers at their peak, whatever kind of road they played on that lot would get wickets.

So 1409 for 13 was the combined first innings total in that match then. That's an average per wicket higher than Bradman managed.

Although it's clear that you can get pitches that are impossible to bat on, I've always been unsure if there is such thing as a pitch that's impossible for bowlers. Or have there been bowlers historically who really could get wickets on anything? Even Murali's figures took a bit of a hammering on that track.
