It's not about being unromantic; I personally am not a person entirely without romantic notions. I would in fact argue that as far as men go, I am more romantic than is considered ordinary (despite my protestations otherwise). The problem is that it seems that somebody has set aside a magical day to prove your love, when in actual fact you shouldn't need that day at all as anyone with love and with a modicum of romance about them would treat every day as that day! Valentine's Day would be a wonderful day if it didn't have the ribbons and the bells and the 'buy, buy, buy' mentality, if it were a day when you took your partner out into the country, laid a picnic out, kissed by the chestnut tree and then walked hand-in-hand through the fields.

But it isn't, it's about 'oh, here's a CD. And a card. And a kiss. I love you.'

Bollocks.

Why thank you Eowyn!! VD - for lovers who want that 'special' gift. Laughing

If you're a vet or in that field, maybe you have some ideas about this:
We were going to a night-time movie at our local mall (which is an Enormous place). Walking past the pet store, we heard these awful cries and wails coming from behind the rolled-down door. The proprietors had left the animals in their cages for the night. Ppl were stopping and shaking their heads, genuinely upset; and the animals sounded distraught.
Earlier, I'd seen an Alaskan Malamut puppy, a German Shepherd, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Maltese terriers and lots of kittens.
This must be a legal practice, but it's so cruel.

Of course we shoudn't have to have a special day where we 'prove' our love. Like everything else in this sorry world, we tend to eventually take others for granted, even though our love may be profound. So I guess making a special time to re-affirm that love and even think about it, is okay by me.
Your country idyll sounds beautiful. I love you

The strangest Valentine's evening for me was the time I had to have the electricity cut off at home and it affected my Sky satellite signal. I had nothing to watch and I spent the whole evening arguing with the moderator of a cricket forum.
