Aussies may have nabbed the next Dale Steyn.
We see lots of Saffas over here escaping to a better life and now some are filtering through to our cricket teams. The odd one is starting to represent WA but here's one I saw in one of our local newspapers.
Super start by Swart in Cheltenham’s Cricket day
11 Feb 09 @ 09:55am by PAUL AMY
Young cricketer Arno Swart is going places fast. VALERIU CAMPAN.
IT was Cheltenham Cricket Club’s lucky day when the big, strong boy who lives next to the ground said he would like a game.
Nobody knew anything about him. But as soon as he started bowling they could see that a fine young talent had lobbed in the club’s backyard.
Arno Swart and his family arrived in Melbourne last October, migrating from South Africa in search of more opportunities.
The Swarts settled in McKenzie St, Cheltenham, and their back fence backs on to Chelt’s Weatherall Rd ground.
Arno, 15, got talking to club president Darren Anderson one Thursday night after training and was soon lining up for the Under 16 team.
“In his first match he nearly killed the opposition,” Anderson said last Friday.
“He was way too quick for them on the synthetic wickets. Our keeper was standing 20m back and taking them head-high.”
Anderson was moved to get on the phone to Cricket Victoria Southern region manager Adrian Jones and alert him to the newcomer’s ability.
“I reckon I’ve got an opening bowler for you,” he said.
Swart was selected in the Rangers’ Under 16 team to play the state championships.
The right-armer took three wickets in the first match, four in the second and in the other fixtures was never less than tidy.
His rise through the ranks continued last week when he was chosen in the Victorian Under 15 schoolboys team, which will compete in the national titles at Cobram-Barooga later this month.
Trevor Swart was elated at his son’s selection.
“He dreams and eats cricket; he’s just so happy. We all are,” he said.
“It’s just amazing. We’re so thankful for the opportunities he’s had with his cricket. Cheltenham has supported him so well.”
Chelt have already promoted him to their top senior team.
In Pretoria, northern South Africa, Arno had been one of the youngest boys to represent his high school team and played provincial cricket, marking him out as an exceptional talent.
Jones sees an exciting prospect.
“He’s 6’1, almost 6’2, broad-shouldered and he’s got a strong bowling action,” he said.
“He gets the seam in a very good position to bowl outswing to the right-handers. He’s bowls the ball much quicker than than most kids his age and he swings the ball.
“You hate to say it, but he’s the Dale Steyn of his age group.”

Cobram and Barooga are only an hour and a bit from here. Might go for a drive when the championships are on.

It's part of our plan to dominate world cricket/

SA sure seems to know how to recognize talent.

We already had the greatest keeper to take the gloves.
KP couldn't lace Duminy's boots.

As the current number 1 ranked team in both JAMODIs and Tests it would seem they do

Finally, something remotely funny from you ... albeit unintentional.

Not ... if you can let go of KP and player like Dhoni (theoretically).
By your theory, Ricky Ponting must have been an amazing skipper a few years back.

Are you just naturally thick or do you have to work hard at it?

Saffas are taking over our staff. So many from Pretoria and Johannesburg. Saffers aren't a very patriotic lot compared with us Aussies. They don't seem to like their nativeland. Problem here geographers have been warning us for years that 20 million is our limit because of the aridity of the continent. The immigration factor is affecting both countries. We're taking the cream of SA's skills and talent (most seem top notch, notice the guru of the burns unit was a saffa) but we're starting to exceed what is an optimum population ecologically.
