Re: Asif banned for one year by IPL
He's the unluckiest bloke ever ...
I mean you're unlucky the first time to be taking a health supplement that you didnt realise contained Nandrolone and get caught
but how farquen unlucky are you then to get an eye infection that you treat with eyedrops that contain Nadrolone
He must have farqued a black cat with a chinaman under a ladder standing on the cracks in the pavement with a broken mirror in his pocket on Friday the 13th at 1.13pm to be that unlucky

Re: Asif banned for one year by IPL
they are both morons and so was their predecessor(Wasim Akram)
Asif's ban should allow PAK to test the new talent, the likes of M Talha, S Khan, M Aamer etc. I will be disappointed if with in a couple of years at least one of these 3 doesn't turn in to one of the best fast bowlers in the world.

Re: Asif banned for one year by IPL
Karachi: Still insisting that he had not taken any banned substance intentionally, Pakistani pacer Mohammad Asif on Wednesday said he would appeal against the one-year ban imposed on him by the Indian Premier League.
Asif, who was handed the ban for his dope flunk in the inaugural IPL last year, said that he had started consultations with his legal advisor to challenge the decision.
"I didn't take any banned substances intentionally so I am not pleased with this ban. I told the IPL drugs tribunal I had used eye drops which I didn't know contained the banned substance, Nandrolone," Asif said.
"We will appeal against the ban. I don't want to carry the stigma of having been found guilty of taking banned substances," he added.
Asif insisted he had never used banned substances or performance-enhancing drug in his life and the IPL dope result had shocked him.
"It was something that shocked me because I don't do drugs or banned substances. I will try to clear my name," he said.

Re: Asif banned for one year by IPL
The PCB has asked the IPL to revise the time-period of the ban imposed on Mohammad Asif, requesting that it end in July this year as opposed to September.
Asif was banned for one year earlier this week by an IPL drugs tribunal for testing positive for nandrolone, a banned anabolic steroid, during the IPL last year. The ban has been back-dated to when the IPL imposed a suspension on him, on September 21, 2009.
The Pakistan board, however, has asked for the ban to begin from the day the IPL announced Asif had tested positive - July 14, 2008., which would mean the ban is lifted on July 14 this year.
"We have sent a letter officially to the IPL," Ijaz Butt, PCB chairman, told Cricinfo. "The ban runs till September 21 this year for the moment, but we have said in the letter that it should be back-dated to the date on which his result was announced."
IPL officials, however, say it is not in their hands but with the ICC. "As far as the IPL is concerned his ban stays till September," an official told Cricinfo. "Even the ICC has agreed to that. If he wants any review he will need to speak to the ICC."
Should the request be accepted, it will give Asif an outside chance of being available for Pakistan's tour of Sri Lanka, slated for July this year. Pakistan have struggled to field their first-choice pace attack over the last two years with injuries and disciplinary issues continuing to plague the likes of Asif, Umar Gul and Shoaib Akhtar.
Asif remains suspended by the PCB pending the end of the ban but Butt said recently that he was keen to induct Asif back into the fold as soon as the ban ends, fitness permitting.

Re: Asif banned for one year by IPL
Disgraceful behaviour from PCB.
But thats quite understandable. Had they punished Asif and Shoaib enough for their drug offence during ICCCT in '06, things might not have been so bad for Asif.

Does IPL have the power to ban Asif from all cricket?
K.P. Mohan
NEW DELHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) says it had been notified about the IPL tribunal decision to ban Pakistani Mohammad Asif from “participating in the sport of cricket for a period of one year after finding the player guilty of a doping violation.”
The ICC further says, in a release, “the ICC has yet to consider the written reasons for the decision in the matter and will make no further comment at this stage other than to confirm its expectation that all Member Boards will adopt the ban and as such the player will not be available for official cricket until the ban has been completed.”
The question is, has the IPL got the authority to ban a player from the sport for any length of time?
The ICC anti-doping code, relevant to the year 2007, when the Asif doping offence occurred, does not extend to anything other than ICC events. Even if one were to take into account the clause relating to “mutual enforcement and assistance”, the ICC would be duty bound to enforce only a member unit’s regulations and not that of a tournament.
IPL rule
Thus, it would seem the IPL rules alone could be applied in the case of Asif. These rules, though a little vague, do give the impression that they are solely concerned with IPL and nothing more.
The IPL rule regarding ‘status during ineligibility” (9.9) says: “No cricketer who has been declared ineligible may, during the period of ineligibility, participate in any capacity in any match during the ineligibility period. This would preclude, but not be limited to: attending any practice or training session with any team or any member of a team; b) acting as a coach of any team or as an official of any team or an official in respect of the League; c) receiving payment from IPL, or any Franchisee in respect of his personal services; d) using facilities or equipment owned or controlled by IPL and / or e) holding any official position with IPL or any Franchisee.”
In addition, financial support or other sports-related benefits received by such a cricketer “will be withheld by IPL and / or cricketer’s Franchisee.”
The above rules clearly give the impression that the rules are in relation to the IPL and not the sport as whole.
Awaits explanations
The ICC, as well the media and the public, would be eagerly awaiting the explanations given by the IPL drugs tribunal in reducing Asif’s sanction to one year while admitting, “Mohammad Asif was found guilty by the IPL Drug Tribunal in as much as a prohibited substance namely nandrolone was found in the urine sample extracted from the player during the support period and the match played on May 30th 2008 between the Delhi Daredevils and the Rajasthan Royals at Mumbai.”
All steroid violations attract a two-year suspension. A suspension period can only be reduced if the competitor pleads “exceptional circumstances” and proves that he could not have had any control over the banned substance entering his body.
The two crucial conditions are, the player has to plead “exceptional circumstances” and the escape route is not shown to him by any hearing panel, and he has to prove that he was not negligent in any manner in allowing a banned substance to get into his bodily fluids.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
As far as I know IPL can ban a player just from its own tournament. So what happened here?
