Re: Rank the following based on SPEED
Quite surprising to see a midget like M Sami generate so much pace.
Wish he had NOT cut down his run up and pace in 2004

Re: Rank the following based on SPEED
Mike Selvey wrote a very good article about pace bowling the other week in the Guardian.
Basically said what many people have about the speed guns, that they don't tell the whole story.
FWIW - Selvey said the fastest ball he'd ever sen was bowled by Shoaib, not the '100 mph' ball that Nick Knight calmly tucked into the leg-side for a single in the '03 World Cup - where the speed guns were doctored to give quicker readings, but he reckons it was the howitzer to Stephen Fleming the World Cup previously that had bowled him before he had even twitched.
Not a great bowler, but I doubt many fast bowlers has bowled with the same sustained pace as Brett Lee, not just one spell but sustained over a number of spells and across Test Series. Not always well directed, but always fast.
Then there's the great imponderables like how fast men like Larwood, Trueman, Tyson, Griffiths & Gilchrist were.

Re: Rank the following based on SPEED
Wasim was more deadly with his ability to swing the ball and what he could do with the old ball rather than just out and out pace. He was still lively don't get me wrong but not one of the quickest.

He was fairly sharp.
According to Warne in the 1994 test series against AUS(in PAK) he bowled as fast as he(Warne) has seen any one bowl.

Re: Rank the following based on SPEED
shoaib is the quickest i have seen. i cant imagine too many being quicker than him. i know some pakistanis have built up zahid as a demon, but i dont think he was quicker. i remember seeing him in the nz series and think his extra bounce made him seem a lot quicker than he was

check the video that i posted or his spell at Hamilton in 2003....
he got faster and faster and faster....and reduced the Kiwis to 52/7
M Sami could have been something really special but he decided to do a Munaf and took the easy way out.

these include
- Shoaib himself
- Players who played against Zahid(almost ALL)
- Players who played WITH Zahid(almost ALL)
Recently Rameez Raja said that facing Zahid was like facing some one bowling with golf balls.
Even BC Lara and Hooper thought that he was the quickest.

Re: Rank the following based on SPEED
"The first time I really felt that I had to watch a guy was against Mohammad Zahid at the Gabba in a Benson & Hedges game. It was probably the fastest spell I faced. I was in good form but the ball was just a blur. He was looking for wickets and and he had me thinking that if he got it on target, there was a very good chance of getting hit. " Hooper

There is no doubt in my mind that Zahid was more talented( not just quicker) than Shoaib.

perhaps around the same speed(may be a KM or 2 quicker) from the hand but with more bite
p.s before making his international debut Zahid was clocked at over 100 mph in NZ
