Re: Rank the following based on SPEED
Thommo's the fastest I've seen. I think Patterson may have actually been the quickest West Indian.

Re: Rank the following based on SPEED
Adrian Van Troost was quicker than the lot of them.
Hence why speed doesn't mean everything.

Shoaib of 1998-1999 to 2003 was a sight to behold...no doubt about it.
Zahid was probably more talented bowler though

Re: Rank the following based on SPEED
It's hard to imagine anyone faster than Thomo. Holding looked like he was at times but it's hard to tell.
Truth is there isn't much between any of them when you really look at it. There is only so fast one can go.

perhaps but Shoaib himself said that Zahid was a yard quicker than him...thats quite a bit
HOW EVER when Zahid was at his fastest Shoaib was "only" 95-96 mph bowler and slowly built his pace up to 99-100 by 2002-03.

Re: Rank the following based on SPEED
It is a difficult thing is this speed.
Firstly, the method of measurement in Thommo's day was different to the spped-gun of Shoaib's. Both are/were right up there at the limit of possibility i.e. around 100mph.
Dunno about Zahid, never saw him for some reason new kids and no Sky probably.
The other thing is speed at what point of the delivery?
Depending ion the height of release, there will be differential absorption of energy by the pitch, so a tall bowler's delivery will lose more speed on pitching than a skiddy, kiss the surface Malcolm Marshall.
Of course in the end a couple of MPH between "friends" is neither here nor there, anything over 90, if combined with consistency is near deadly and if combined with control and movement is essentially deadly more often than not.
Also, there is the issue of whether a bowler who has touched 100MPH once, but generally bowls at 90 is faster than say a Holding, Marshall or Patterson who would consistently, repetitively ad nauseum bowl around 95 (with total control)

Speed without control is nothing but intimidation (or farce).
