Re: Australia v New Zealand, 4th ODI, Adelaide, Feb 10
Am I right in saying that all gate takings and the Aust players match fees will be donated to the Bushfire appeal?
If so, surely the Adelaidians will pack the place out.

Yes, and there'll be a fundraising appeal during the match. Also channel Nein has dug Eddie McGuire up to host a telethon on Thursday.JGK wrote:Am I right in saying that all gate takings and the Aust players match fees will be donated to the Bushfire appeal?

New Zealand cricket team announces support for bushfire appeal
The New Zealand cricket team has advised that it will make a contribution towards the appeal for victims of the bushfires in Victoria, Australia.
The BLACKCAPS team and management today extended their sympathy to those affected by the fires, and expressed their wish to contribute to the appeal through a financial donation.
In addition, the players will each donate a signed series shirt to be auctioned, with the proceeds going to the bushfire appeal.
The BLACKCAPS, who meet Australia in the fourth match of the Commonwealth Bank One Day International series at Adelaide tomorrow, will join with the Australian team in observing a minute’s silence prior to the match, and will wear black armbands in acknowledgement of the tragedy.

I wonder if a regular match is actually the best option.
An extra match, with all proceeds to the appeal?
Okay - time against it.

The extra match for the tsunami was a big day.
But that was a bigger disaster.

Take your point, whatever its
proportion.
But I think it depends how it's handled. The tsunami relief match was fairly cocked-up.
But you may well be right. Vic Seniors v Vic Present XI might be more useful!

The match itself was a corker - IMO. The ICC giving it official ODI status was a joke, but it meant my children will be able to tell their grandkids they got to see TGM's last ODI.
It was played in good spirit, and was very entertaining, and the moeny raised was a huge amount.
Of course, there were other matches mooted that never happened. Bit of a debacle there.

Ah right.
I thought you were saying (in jest) the tsunami relief match was a bigger disaster than the tsunami. ~ Hence the jawdrop.
And I thought you were saying - fromt eh previous - that specially assigned disaster matches did not work, because they were not truly competitive.
i.e. Simple misreading of your (perhaps not-easy-to-follow, enigmatic) post, for which my apologies. I won't go back and edit my reaction at this point.

What about an Aust v ROW T20 at Docklands between the Saf and Ashes tour.
Or maybe a Vic v ROA with TGM (and tgm, Gilly, Hayden etc) making a guest appearance.

I get it now. I think. Maybe I'm being enigmatic again.

Given that this is a charity match, you'd think that if NZ were halfway decent they'd let Australia win...
