Off Topic. Parenting.

Post by Zat on Tue 30 Sep 2008, 23:16

Many Australians think it is improper to spank children.
The other day I was talking to one of my colleagues about
methods used to discipline children.

We talked about "time outs", grounding, holding back "rewards" until the child displayed desired behavior etc. One of the things we discussed was the act of spanking and my friend explained that no, he does not spank any of his children.

He explained that what he does is to take the misbehaving child out for a car ride and talk. He said that usually this works and that the child calms down fairly quickly and really it doesn't take too much time.
By removing the child, in this case his son, from the immediate situation and providing a change of scenery, the child is allowed to focus on something different. Once the child has the opportunity to change perspective, things get better quickly and the child has better understanding of his place within the family and begins to understand the family' s concept of acceptable behavior.
He kindly shared a picture of the process which I share with you now.

If there's sposed to be a picture link to that little homily I can't find it.

If there's not he'd be better off holding the kid off a cliff and say "behave or else:.

Sometimes a smack on the arse helps the child resolve a lot of frustrations in a good cry . . .

Not having any kids, I wouldn't know, but I guess it's better than getting the crap beat out of you as oft happened to me and my brothers . . . cheers

Is anyone in skully's league?

So the other day I rang the Kids Helpline and said "I've just pressed redial and this number came up, who is this?" The operator said "you're through to the Kids Helpline."

I started shouting, "Martin, you little f****r, why have you been ringing them again? Come here so I can kick your arse, you prick" and slammed the phone down.

I recently found out that watching sex scenes on TV with your parents is embarrassing, I didn't even know that they knew how to use the camcorder.

There was once a pair of high school sweethearts. When they graduated, they wanted to go to the same college but the girl was accepted to a college on the east coast, and the guy went to the west coast. They agreed to be faithful to each other and spend any time they could together.
As time went on, the guy would call the girl and she would never be home, and when he wrote, she would take weeks to return the letters. Even when he emailed her, she took days to return his messages.

Finally, she confessed to him she wanted to date around. He didn't want to do this and increased his calls, letters, and emails trying to win back her love. Because she became annoyed, and now had a new boyfriend, she wanted to get him off her back.

So, what she did is this: she took a Polaroid picture of her giving her new boyfriend a blow job and sent it to her old boyfriend with a note reading, ''I found a new boyfriend, leave me alone.''

Well, needless to say, this guy was heartbroken but, even more so, was pissed. So...he wrote on the back of the photo: ''Dear Mom and Dad, having a great time at college, please send more money!'' and mailed the picture to her parents.
