Kapil Dev joins Territorial Army
Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor decorated former cricketer Kapil Dev with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after the latter voluntarily joined the Territorial Army during a ceremony in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The former cricketer has been roped in to join the Armed Forces by the Territorial Army (TA), which is celebrating its 59th anniversary this year.
The 1983 World Cup winning captain joined as an honorary officer. He donned the Army uniform at the glittering ceremony.
While Kapil will not take part in the rigorous training, he will palpably act as a brand ambassador for the Armed Forces.
Kapil's wife Romi Dev and daughter Amiya Dev were also present on the occasion.

In other interesting news, my nan mislaid her teeth earlier which delayed the consumption of her morning cuppa and ginger nuts by 17 minutes and 23 seconds. They were subsequently discovered by the home help on top of the sideboard behind the photo of Edna and Walter at their Ruby Wedding.

Since when has the Indian Army needed brand ambassadors? Pretty popular (except with a few army kids).

I'll sleep soundly in my bed tonight knowing that Kapil Dev is going to be a defender of western democracy.

I heartily denounce the derisory ribbing on this thread. This is important news. Don't you people know anything about chaos theory? This event has probably caused a hurricane in the carribbean...or something. SG is merely warning us of the horrors to come like the mad prophet he is.

Well his heart is probably throbbing palpably at the through of his Colonelcy. Hopes that helps.
I have been waiting decades to use that word. Colonelcy. Ah, peace.

Well to be fair didn't the Don hold a commisiion during WW2 despite apperently being unfit for active service, and still managing to bat all day on numerous occasions prior to, and later when edging forty.
Most line officers grit their teeth at the mere mention of "knives and forks" officers.

I thought you would be the one person (apart from Trev) to have had the opportunity to use a Bishop's prick . . .
