Iphone 3g - yay or nay?

Post by Lara Lara Laughs on Fri 19 Sep 2008, 03:32

Need a spot of help. I want a new phone where I can check emails quickly, go on the net (unlimited) and do cool stuff. The Iphone looks like it has the fastest internet and other nifty stuff.

I would usually stay well clear of apple products. Firstly because I refuse to jump aboard the status symbol, fanboy, consumerist twat-wagon that a lot of people are desperate to stay on. And secondly, because I've heard they're a bitch when it comes to media. I never had an ipod because of the fact you have to use itunes and can't just drag and drop any mp3 into a folder, as you can with my Sony Ericsson.

But I think the iphone is the only phone which has what I want to do so I'm considering it. Anyone got one? Can anyone who owns an ipod tell me more about the mp3 issue? Does it have to be an "apple signed" mp3 to work on an apple product? Can I not put any mp3 that I have in itunes onto it? Also, for anyone who has an iphone - is it really fiddly? I was using one in the o2 shop the other day and I found it a bit difficult to use without a stylus.

Or if anyone else knows of a phone that has fast internet, a reasonable monthly price and wi-fi, do tell.

Cheers.

Don't get it. You're bound to get mugged. Ergo, what's the point.

Sister in law has one.

I dont have sausage fingers, but the 'keyboard' touch screen is a bit tricky.

She struggled to get her pop3 email account working on it until she dowloaded an update but that works fine now.

Internet uses safari I believe, but didn't seem any quicker than my vodafone 3g. obviously looked better on the larger screen than my N95.

It looks breakable to me though.

Her daughter was listening to the mp3 bit on it. you'd need speakers.

Battery is really piss poor as well she says.

Sister-in-law like hers, depsite my not so flattering opinion.

It's a nice bit of kit, but I have my doubts.

I don't really know of one with fast internet or e-mail capabilities. Seems to me manufacturer's ideas of 'fast' is different to the average person.

Too right.

I'm curious as to why O2/Apple are bigging up 3G when its been around for donkeys on other networks.

I've had 3G for about 4 years on Voda easy that I can remember (albeit patchy in places).

I know people who swear by Blackberrys, Lara. As far as I know they do everything the 3G phones do, but from someone who only uses the phone and text functions you might want to take that with a pinch of salt.

I have a 5 year old mobile phone.

1. As Jontyh says all I do is phone & text

2. It's not worth mugging me for

I have a Samsung Soul, I bought it because it looks sleek and it makes swirly patterns when you use the touchscreen.

Sounds like a good reason to buy one for LLL

Seasider: I think they also say, "Look how I've embraced technology in the absence of sexual fulfilment."

I've just stumbled across the Samsung Omnia. Supposed to be better than the iphone and cheaper. The idiotic name might disqualify it though. WTF is Omnia supposed to mean.
