Smith has a bit of a sook

Post by Invader Zim on Thu 20 Sep 2007, 13:44

"Though we do find ways to get out of these tournaments there's a lot of disappointment knowing you've lost one game in the tournament and you're out.

"It does seem weird but we weren't as clinical with the ball and never really got a hold of the game," Smith said.

"We knew batting second under lights with that bit of green tinge in the wicket was going to be difficult," the skipper admitted.
As far I know stats of Durban, SA has very good record of chasing under lights at Kingsmead.

Infact, they've beaten India twice in triseries finals, in '97 and '01.

And come on Smith, your batsmen should be accustomed to play on a pitch with a tinge of green. Thats how most of your pitches are in SA.

In fairness, it does seem a bit anomalous that a single defeat can place a team outside the final four.

Agreed peter, especially when you see Aussies still in SF despite losing 2 games.

But thats how sports go. You've to win key moments and games to go all the way. Which is what Aussies have done in this WC.

Smith can't really complain, if south africa had of won the WC semi we would have been knocked out after just 1 loss by a team that had already lost a few games including one to bangladesh.

Arguably they lost twice last night. They lost the match and then lost the secondary chase to what should have been a piss easy target of 126.

To make it better, I think they were 5/100 with about four overs left.

They only way to get round the anomolous bit, i.e. Aus losing twice and getting through and South Africa losing once and getting the bum's rush would be to have an all-play-all round robin league. Can you stand that much 20/20 cricket?

It worked in the 1992 WC - which was my favourite tournament

You could probably still play it in two weeks if some games were played simultaneously (or even at the same time!) - possibly not at the same venue though.

Mine too. The one point from the England game (which they would have won had it not been for the rain) helped us progress to semis, smash the NewZees and then bowl you out in a decent final.
