Champions Trophy: Interesting comments by Aamir Sohail

Post by PlanetPakistan on Sat 12 Jul 2008, 05:47

"What is happening in the country is basically the result of Pakistan leading this war against terror," Sohail said. "We are paying for fighting it. Countries such as Australia and England are our allies in this war on terror, yet they are not supporting us here. Are we real allies or are we just being used?"

"If the tournament isn't held here because of these reasons," Sohail said, "it will be a really sad day for Pakistan cricket. It is an unfair price for us to pay. This tournament is a real test of our role in this war: after eight years in the front-line, is this our reward - that we miss out on hosting this tournament? The onus is on the president to convince countries that it is safe to play in Pakistan and that sport has never been targeted here. The ICC and PCB are going the whole hog in ensuring it happens here but the president can really help with his involvement."

There should not be a doubt in ANY one's mind that this situation in Pakistan has been caused by this so called "war against terror". You just have to compare the situation in the country before and AFTER sept 11 2001.

it was bound to happen at some time. if not a war on terror it would result in lal masjids all over pakistan, maybe another afghanistan. this is entirely in pakistan's best interests

as for the rest, england and australia (or whoever) dont need to send cricket teams to support the war on terror. how the two are connected is beyond me

Absolutely NOT, i am surprised you say that.

This so called "war against terror" has been the main cause of the sharp rise in terrorism. It has become really easy for people of malicious intend and agendas to recruit people and turn them totally against the government and the people of the country. Last week Hamid Mir(famous journalist in Pakistan) was telling a story of his trip to Waziristan where he arrived after one of the numerous military operations. During this operation he met a 17 year old kid who during the operation had seen 2 of his younger brothers die right in front of his eyes, this kid looked directly at Hamid Mir with eyes of rage and uttered something along the lines of " now i will go to Islamabad and blow himself up right there in front of you guys".

IMO they should make an internal decision to NOT host the CT in Pakistan.

The whole world? No, one part of it. The other turned upside down when the USA and allies decided to invade it, 'the war of terror' and all that other shit only upon fear mongering and lies.

The title of this thread is something of an oxymoron.

Or you could say that the war against terror is the reason for rise in terrorism IN Pakistan. That they had to turn against the very force they created and harboured. Otherwise it was all hunky dory as long as militants trained in Pak, and rained death elsewhere in the globe. How dare Pak toe the Americans and start cracking down on militants instead of giving them safe training grounds and sanctuaries??? Of course a civilaztion that was allowed to be polarized and allowed to be used as a fertile ground for breeding such militants was always going to throw up these results even if Pak had not 'fought the war against terror'.

We shouldn't ask uncomfortable questions on why Pak armed and raised Taliban to set up base in Afghanistan and what right they had meddling with democratically elected Govt. there that was overthrown by their actions or why they trained and rained militants in Kashmir to fight a proxy war against India for 2 decades now? Allowing santuary to organizations like Dawood, Lashkar, Jaish etc. is hardly a way of having democratic relationships with India.

What goes around comes around. It was always a matter of time.

Get rid of the trouble making ISI playing a double game with everyone - India, Pak, USA, Taliban etc. and you should be able to build the nation up once again. Easier said than done. Of course the Americans and too some extent, the British too feel the pain of the double edged sword they created. They helped train ISI, used Pak and Taliban in Afghan against Russia and it is no less a deserved irony that their own weapon now wounds them, bleeds them just the way to does to Pak. There is a lesson to be learned here for everyone. Terrorists cannot be created, sustained, nourished and used for once's own goals. They know no control and no boundaries save death and destruction.

There is a saying from ancient India - 'Jo doosro ke liye gadde khodta hai, wo khud ek din ussi gadde mein girta hai....' [he who digs trenches to throw in and bury other people is meant to fall in one someday.]
