Actually, it looks like she is from Sydney. Must have had Vixen parents.

It's because caucasians are physiologically more suited to swimming while black athletes are physiologically more suited to track events. Australia is more concerned with kicking the snot out of all the blacks in the country rather than letting them compete in organised sport, so they don't really achieve much in the track events. On the other hand, they have an excellent record in swimming events.

When you think about how few champion black swimmers there has been (I can't think of any) you have to say that there's an element of truth there.

It is true. Something to do with differences in body density or some such thing.

Heard a sports scientist going on about bone density and muscle fibre differences between Africans and Caucasians a few years ago. Wish I could remember more of it now.

I'll be interested to see how China goes in these games. You get the feeling that anything less than top of the medal tally will be considered a failure.

Well, our T&F is probably at its lowest point for 2 decades but the BOA are hopeful of a good games

Amazing to think 2000 & 2004 were our most successful games since 1924 (discounting the boycotted 84 games)

Aye. There'll be all sorts of magical snail snot and caterpillar sperm concoctions being brewed as we speak.

I seem to remember Britain falling well short of their medal target in 2004.

A lot of China's athletes were identified by officials several years ago, measured up, and told that they had to come to an instutute to begin their training, and become a symbol of pride for their nation. They didn't have a choice in the matter.

You normally do but you've got to aim high.....

This will be a good story. Rebecca Romero won a Silver in the rowing in 2004 and is hoping to win in the Individual pursuit in Cycling

So what is likely to be the top 5 of the medal tally? I guess-

USA
China
Russia
Germany
Australia

Perhaps?
