No link yet, but apparently her toe injury will prevent her from competing in Beijing.

Yeah, heard that on Foxy Sports News just now myself. Damn, there's one possible gold (and likely the only possible one in the track and field) gawn.

A good question JKL. Interesting how we can swim the bejesus out of most countries bar the USA but couldn't run or jump our way out of paper bag.

I'd like to say something about it being too hot and/or humid to make T&F a worthwhile sporting pastime, but Africa seems to shit on that as a theory.

I think it is more a case of the best athletes generally going to the football codes or triathlon. Not sure why the women aren't better at T&F though.

20? And then some in the news section alone, she's a Vomit, isn't she?

The Herald Sun might even push the footy off the back page for a photo of her crying about the destruction of her Olympic dream. Then there'll be the obligatory multi-page spread including photos of her winning at Athens, and a hugely-important gold at the Comm Games 06...

She doesn't surpass Deano.

She didn't nearly kill herself by scoring a double century in Madras...

For all of the money that Australia puts into sport, the USA puts even more into their college athletics programs. And apart from the US athletes themselves, that's where all of the top athletes from the Caribbean like Ato Boldon, Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt have gone.

Distance running is a case of the Ethiopians in particular simply being genetically better suited to distance running than runners from any other country. Most of the top Ethiopian athletes start training from a very young age, at extremely high altitudes. I read in Time magazine that three of Ethiopia's gold medal winning distance runners of the last 20 years have come from the same high altitude village.
