Time for an update of County nicknames

Post by PeterCS on Mon 07 Jul 2008, 11:35

Several years after the introduction of American-style nicknames to enthuse the hordes of new fans, it's clear that the system is in need of an overhaul.

I mean ... Gladiators, Eagles, Carnegie (an uninspiring patron's name if ever there was one) Sticklebacks and so on were never very good.

These are my suggestions. What do others think?

Derbyshire Diarrhoeas
Durham Dirtbags
Essex Maniacs
Glam Rockingchairs
Gloucester Tossers
Hampshire Hampers
Kent Thunderqunts
Lancashire Hotpots
Leicester Worryabout
Middlesex Middlelegs
Northants No-Chancers
Notts Crashlandings
Somerset Zuiderzuppers
Surrey Slurreypackers
Sussex Seasuckers
Warwicks Shambolics
Worcester Saucebottlers
Yorkshire Puddings

But Essex don't give away that many extras ...

Admittedly the pendants, porkpie hats and Escorts can be fetching.

Like Essex Maniacs,

Perhaps we should have Middlesex Deviants and Sussex Offenders as well?

KwaZulu-NaNorthants?

After what I've witnessed over the last three days a good name for my team would be the Yorkshire Tw@thooks. (pronounced Tw@t-hoo-ks)

You can't please all the people, all the time.

Though I suspect you might both be slighted by your favourites being slightly mored.

I think they are ok...an alternative would be to give the nickname that reflects the best or funniest overseas player to play for the county - eg Yorky Boofs, Durham deanos etc
