Punter could miss Champions Trophy

Post by Red on Sun 06 Jul 2008, 22:05

Ponting may miss Champions Trophy

Ponting missed the final two ODIs against West Indies
Australia captain Ricky Ponting could miss the ICC Champions Trophy in September after having surgery on his injured right wrist.

The 33-year-old suffered the injury during the third one-day international against West Indies and missed the final two games.

He returned home to Australia early and underwent surgery on Monday.

"A decision regarding his fitness for the Champions Trophy will be made in due course," said Cricket Australia.

Australia are the current holders of the ICC Champions Trophy, which is set to start on 11 September in Pakistan.

However, Australia have already voiced security concerns about Pakistan hosting the tournament.

Australia had already sealed the one-day series when Ponting returned home early from the Caribbean.

In his absence, Michael Clarke captained them to a 5-0 series whitewash.

BTW, I saw on tonight's news that there was another suicide bombing in Pakistan which claimed over forty lives. I wonder if this will impact on the holding of the tournament there.

And the time to change the skipper in the lead up to WC2011 gets just a little closer.

The chances of Australia touring Pakistan are a million to one after the suicide bombings in Islamabad just recently.

I think there's way more sand in the bottom of his hourglass than the top. Especially in ODIs.

Ricky has been taking wrist action lessons from Warney. The end is nigh.

Sometimes men diagnoses with wrist problems are told they've been doing too much wanking. Well that's what physios have told me.
