Law 2 (Substitutes and runners; batsman or fielder leaving the field; batsman retiring; batsman commencing innings)
1. Substitutes and runners
(a) If the umpires are satisfied that a player has been injured or become ill after the nomination of the players, they shall allow that player to have
(i) a substitute acting instead of him in the field.
(ii) a runner when batting.
Any injury or illness that occurs at any time after the nomination of the players until the conclusion of the match shall be allowable, irrespective of whether play is in progress or not.

(b) The umpires shall have discretion, for other wholly acceptable reasons, to allow a substitute for a fielder, or a runner for a batsman, at the start of the match or at any subsequent time.

(c) A player wishing to change his shirt, boots, etc. must leave the field to do so. No substitute shall be allowed for him.

So the ICC will apply Law 2 as it's written ....

Perhaps they should look at Law 21

10. Result not to be changed
Once the umpires have agreed with the scorers the correctness of the scores at the conclusion of the match - see Laws 3.15 (Correctness of scores) and 4.2 (Correctness of scores) - the result cannot thereafter be changed.

Why shouldn't a bowler who's slogged his guts out in hot conditions be allowed to have a quick shower and change his clothes?

Besides, it give rookie sub fielders a chance to get on the field during a Test match. Must be a great experience for them.

Meddling twats.

How so?

The batsman can't toddle off for a "shower and a change of clothes" mid-session after "slogging his guts out in hot conditions." Rolling Eyes

At least something good came out of that whitewash of an ICC gathering.

Ask Dean Jones about it sometime when you have a spare few hours to hear about Madras.

Well, I've never asked him about it. Wink

But yes, read and heard plenty.

Fast bowlers are a bunch of gayers. They get to sip their isotonics out of a coolbox down at fine leg at the end of every over, and still they shirk off after a 5 over spell.

Not any more though provided this is enforced. Good.

Aye, there's a drinks break after an hour's play, or 40 minutes in really hot weather. If you can't play for that long without needing a top-up, then you shouldn't be playing the game in the first place.

I blame Rod Hogg for starting the comfort break trend nearly 30 years ago.
