Re: West Indies v Australia, 4th ODI, Basseterre, 4th July
WICB President trying to motivate his players.
"THE West Indies Cricket Board president has told players they must start performing at a level that matches their pay packets in a stunning outburst ahead of the fourth one-dayer against Australia.
With the Windies staring down the barrel of a 5-0 series sweep in St Kitts this weekend, WICB president Julian Hunte has told his team in no uncertain terms that they either start winning or run the risk of disappearing into insignificance in world cricket.
"The West Indies team has to start winning matches against higher-ranked opponents or we will end up being relegated to being a second division international team (alongside Bangladesh and Zimbabwe)," Hunte said.
The president claimed the Windies were was the third-highest paid players in the world, but with the team ranked eighth in both Test and one-day cricket, were not performing to that standard.
"We want our team to be No.1 both in performance and emoluments," Hunte said.
"However, if we do not start winning we run the risk of being relegated and we will not be able to earn the money that we require to regain our place at the pinnacle of world cricket.
"We need to ... get higher up in the rankings."

I wonder whether it will have the desired effect??

3rd highest paid? I seriously doubt that.

I expect a Zat, RD, MB, Zim or Nerky "Trev" response to this.

Has Hunte just leaked out a potential ICC proposal?

The president claimed the Windies were was the third-highest paid players in the world,
I'd say in reality it goes-
1. India
2= Australia, England
3. South Africa
4. Pakistan
5. West Indies
6. Sri Lanka
7. New Zealand
8. Bangladesh

Expect huge scores at this venue. It's a small ground and the pitch is usually pretty flat. Lucky for the hosts that Hayden is absent.

Well there's still Symonds to do some damage.

Well both teams are playing on the same ground, so if the boundaries are smaller for Symonds, they're smaller for Gayle as well.
I think a smaller ground will actually suit the Windies, as there wil be less emphasis on running between the wickets and more emphasis on hitting boundaries.

Time to let Ronchi open, and put White and Dave Hussey in the XI.
