Confirmation: T20 Champions league bans ICL players

Post by JKLever on Sun Jun 22, 2008 5:54 am

Finally some sort of clarification.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/7468041.stm

This seems perfectly fair to me - any team can qualify choosing any players within their domestic structure but those teams in the champions league cannot pick players involved in the ICL

BBC Sport understands the ECB could invite alternative counties to represent England if the leading ones insist on keeping the "rebel" players.

By 'alternative counties' they mean Essex,Middlesex & Somerset then...

England (well, a Scotsman in collaboration with the ECB) creates the game, and then allows itself to be dictated to by an outside party just because they have money. Cricket in crisis? Probably. These money men don't have a clue.

It's nothing like that though. This is a tournament played under the BCCI who have every right not to want ICL players playing in their tournament.

My main gripe was that they would ban teams for playing ICL players in our own domestic league, which would be out of their juristiction... but this seems to have cleared this up.

Also, there was an interesting interview on Sky News with the Kent chief exec who said that they probably would not play their ICL players in any 'Champions league' though would share any winnings amonsgt a pot which would include them.

That seems to be the most sensible way of doing things to me

I think so, but I think there will be a lot of negotiations before that happens. Just a back up plan at this stage...

They may have created the game, but they sure as heck don't own it.

And that is it in a nutshell.

Modi/ BCCI has no farking business telling the counties what to do in their backyard.

Conversely they can make the rules for what they do in this league.

with so many former pakistani players in the icl, picking the 2006 winners could be a problem. pakistan would have to get a league together before september and get some new champions
