Because with Freddie still unfit to bowl and still shite with the bat there is no ready replacement for him either as player or captain. Mascarhenas is not really a perfect fit (although he might have made the difference coming in at 7 or 8 today had he been selected). KP would probably take over the captaincy, which would be interesting, to say the least. The Kiwis deserved their win today as compensation for the shambles at Edgbaston on Wednesday.

It would be nice to see two warm days in London with the matches split after a feast of batting and the Kiwis going home with at least some self-confidence intact. Whatever happens let's hope both Collingwood and Sidebottom are fit and rarin' to go against the Saffies at Lord's next month in the proper cricket. If they're absent then we're farked!

England are shoite.

Low scoring JAMODI games are always a test of technique and temperament.

We (almost) always lose them nowadays...

Couldn't believe it when the morning sports roundup included the Snoozers beating the English. Farkin tankers. Wink

snigger

Flipped over to this after the footy at about the 47th over and the commentators were ripping the snoozers and said they were a big chance for the lowest score after 50 overs in an ODI in England.

Fabulous stuff, I must have switched over at about the same time as Ross. How funny.

I will amend my first reaction on seeing the result.

Save Broad, Tremlett, Swann and perhaps Collingwood. (Jury out.)

Lock the others up for at least five years.

I know England lost, but the prospect of Flintoff, Tremlett, and Broad playing together in the same side is an exciting one. Not that susceptibility to injury will ever allow it.....

Broad seems to have stepped up a gear in these ODI's. It can happen that way- A young guy just suddenly finds something extra and goes to the next level. He's consistently around 88-89 mph at the moment, and he's accurate. He's got 10 times more brains than Anderson, as well.

Flintoff, Sidebottom, Broad, Tremlett, and Anderson if it swings. Doesn't look too shabby....

Re: England v New Zealand, 3rd ODI, Bristol, 21st June

Post by Chivalry Augustus on Sun Jun 22, 2008 6:54 am

I actually thought most of the players contributed yesterday. The likes of Bell, Bopara, Collingwood, Swann and Broad all managed acceptable scores with the bat in a low-scoring contest. The problem was that Bopara, Bell, Pietersen and Shah needlessly threw their wickets away. On the bowling front, Broad, Tremlett, Collingwood and Swann all bowled tightly (enough), but Wright and Anderson let the team down bowling un-economical dross that allowed New Zealand to get up to a winning target. That means, by my summary, that the following were carp:

- Luke Wright
- Kevin Pietersen
- Owais Shah
- Tim Ambrose
- James Anderson

The other six achieved varying degrees of acceptability. Stuart Broad was fantastic, Tremlett was tight and economical, Collingwood contributed in an all-round role. Swann did what was asked of him. Bell and Bopara put on a partnership that should have laid the foundations, though one of them ought to have gone on.

Anyway, the forecast is good for Wednesday. We'll lose, somebody will cry. Probably me.

Chivalry Augustus
