Kevin Pietersen, explaining in an interview that he gets sent pictures of naked women by fans, reveals the extent of his Englishness

“Do you get weird fan mail?”

“Yeah (he says with a grin), pictures of girls with their tits out.”

“That’s outrageous.”

“(Sniggers) I know — but look, it’s your nation, not mine.”

Has KP gone completely nuts?

“This was a very tongue-in- cheek article I did with Celia, who is a friend of ours,” he explains.

“A friend?”

“Yeah.”

“Piers Morgan is a friend of mine; Celia is his missus. I’ve heard a few things this week that have come out of it, but it was a fun sort of piece. Hardly anything I said was serious.”

“So sex doesn’t affect your play?”

“Well, to be honest, it’s not one of the things that really plays on your mind when you are out there facing somebody at 95 miles an hour.”

“And you don’t cook naked?”

“No, I don’t cook naked. It was just another tongue-in- cheek comment that people picked up on . . . The Sun ran a whole feature over two days on it. Come on lads, please! It was ridiculous.”

“And by ‘your’ nation you meant?”

“Gender. I didn’t mean Britain or England, because it has happened all over the world. I meant it’s your nation as in ‘You’re a woman, you understand women better than I understand women’, but some guy went and wrote, ‘He doesn’t know where he is from,’ and I’m like, ‘Mate, please give it a rest.’ I mean, I’ve tried so hard to do everything I can to show people how passionate I am about this country, but you do an interview like that and everything gets picked up on. I don’t want to do interviews any more because it just becomes a burden.”

“The plus side is that you’re a very good interview,” I suggest. “You don’t hold back or talk in clichés.”

“It’s a plus for you but not for me,” he counters. “Because I’m the one that gets clattered.”

Needs a good kicking for having Piers Morgan as a friend though...
