Smith to miss Lord's test

Post by Red on Sun 01 Jun 2008, 21:52

The IPL claims its second victim after Hayden. Although given Smith's recent record against the poms it might be bonus for SA.

Mumbai - South Africa captain Graeme Smith is likely to miss next month's opening Test against England after sustaining a hamstring injury.

Smith, 27, picked up the injury while playing in an Indian domestic league match and may have to sit out the opener at the Lord's cricket ground starting July 10.

"I've got a grade-two tear in my hamstring and it looks as though I will be out for at least four weeks, so I'm struggling to make Lord's," he told reporters late on Sunday.

The aggressive left-handed opener is slated to join his South Africa teammates in Johannesburg for a training camp before they leave for England for the four-Test series.

Certainly is. Since his two doubles, he's averaged 24 versus us in 8 Tests.

I guess they'll just move AB up the order, with Duminy making his debut at six.

Good move IMO. Duminy in their side makes the line-up more classy - he's a quality player IMO. Probably second to Kallis only.

Duminy certainly has a lot of ability, and looks a class act. He could force Prince out of the side when Smith returns.

Ashwell Prince will become the first coloured player to captain South Africa in England.

Unless they give it to Amla.

Lucky break for the Saffers and the English fans at Lord's.

How do you work that one out Red?

Smiffy was our great big hope to dispense with Jimmykins leg stump dross!!

Bullshit. His natural 'leg stump half volley' line to the right-handers would be bang on the nose for a line to a left-hander.

Kallis, on the other hand, should murder him - he's strong off his legs.

Danny, you make the assumption that Jimmykins wouldn't change his line.

Give him his due he could do that, so in fact it would be both Kallis and Smiffy dispensing with him. Just means he may go at 6's instead of 10's per over!
