Meh, this squad is similar to the lot that beat your mob last year...

No, I meant I couldn't GAF about any ODI sides or how they do.

Cool.

@ JKL, I think you'll find our lot improving bit after this. Also, IPL team 'standards' are pretty damn good.

I didn't mean this Eng team wouldn't beat an average IPL side, just that they would struggle- a lot. And as often as not they'd not win.

Surely you're joking about the Blob... what exactly would he offer to an ODI side?

Time for some imaginative selections, batsmen who can hit the thing out of the ground even if their county records aren't that spectacular in terms of consistency. Pick on potential, not has-beens and never-will-bes. You don't win ODI's by being 40-2 off 10 overs.

Wonder how many hours of Ashley Giles's naked percussion it took to pick this squad?

Don't rate Mustard at all, Ambrose is non-proven but probably worth a run so fair enough.

Don't agree with picking exactly he same bowling attack that was hit for 8-10 an over by two fat sloggers. Actually I just don't agree with picking Jimmikins come to think of it.

Generally as with everything England related- all just a bit uninspiring and quietly depressing.

I'd have at least been a little impressed if they'd brought in some new guys just to take a look at them in the shorter form of the game - a sneak preview, so to speak. This just seems to say 'Same old, same old."

Would it have been a bad thing to pick Graham Onions and see how good he's going to be instead of James Anderson who's perpetually shit.

Well, I'd rather have him in the JAMODI side than the Test side, if we have to have him at all... he does sometimes do a bit of damage with the new white ball. Just don't bowl him in the second half of the innings. Ever. Are you listening Mr Collingwood?

Anyway it's new selectors, same old shit really... unlike the Test team where our options are very limited in terms of quality backup, we can afford to take a chance or two here when only a year into the World Cup cycle. You'll get a fair few muppets but eventually you'll find another Trescothick from somewhere - the player averaging 30 in domestic cricket who just takes to the international game like he's been playing it for years.

Swann to open the batting in the pinch hitting role perhaps?

Has done it for Notts with some success.

Would rather see Wright in the middle order.

Pleased they are having a proper look at Ambrose, so hopefully by the end of the summer we will have a clearer picture of whether he's going to be able to cut it at the highest level in either / both forms of the game.

Moreover it means that at least common sense has prevailed, and Moores the Moronic doesn't get his way with getting his pet bum boy, the Sussex Cymbals back into the side. Thank fook Miller appears to have more balls in standing up to his coach's whims and favourites than Dave feckin' Grave ever did.

Dello wrote:Not very inventive squad, is it? Basically just cut out a small sliver of the deadwood in Mustard and Tredwell and then "same again, lads".

Thought there would've been a case for a couple of new faces, freshen things up a bit.

What Cook is still doing in the squad is a mystery. Bet he won't go for much in the IPL auction...

Phurt. Dravid would pick him up with a 7 figure salary most likely.

Opportunity missed, I think, to try Bell out as ODI opener and blood Hildreth.

The opportunity for a Mustard-Onions combination seems to have been lost for all time.
