Manuka Oval 15/2/92 - Pakistan v South Africa

Post by Zat on Tue 27 May 2008, 14:05

1992 World Cup warm up match

No big deal really, except that as far as I can tell, it was the first time SOuth Africa and Pakistan had played each other in cricket, and quite possibly any major sport.

I've been told that my picture wound up in some of the jaapie papers the next day as one of the fans captivated by the game, but have no proof of this. Anyone know if there's an online resource where I can check this?

The big coincidence though was the South African fans we wound up talking with at this game were sitting 2 rows in front of us at the World Cup Final at the MCG.

Were they the ones that taught you those special South African taunts, and had they immigrated in the interim?

Leading suspect wouild be the Jo'burg Post taips. May have been the Times, but given the number of beers in the intervening period, I can't be sure.

Best bet would probably be the Sunday Times, or maybe the Citizen.

Why not drop Mynah a line, she is a journalist.

Unfortunately that doesn't say much, given the number of riff raff and the amount of rubbish they post.
