IPL Aftermath - ICC FTP in danger of collapsing.....

Post by Batman on Tue 27 May 2008, 05:22

Having tasted blood, BCCI is now greedy for twice the IPL. Lalit Modi has proposed to BCCI to have the IPL twice a year.

Like I said before somewhere, soon the FTP will be soon of Premier T20 competitions and test cricket will be confined to the museums with the remains of the dinosaurs!

What do you expect? The people running it are businessmen and the people playing it are employees. If you expect these people to know what's good for the game, then you have too much faith in the idiots who are involved with sport.

Cricket has increasingly become a business rather than a sport though and this is simply the next logical step.

If you'd seen anything of the two tests just finished - you would know that is absolute tosh.

Money matters now and nothing else. I hope BCCI implements the concept of 2 IPLs in a year. We can have too much of it all year round and then fans just vanish and give up on it causing the Franchisees to burn their fingers.........

Double the length of the IPL, run it four times a year, better yet, find a way to run it 24/7/365.

I was about to report that news Josh. Good I checkd this thread first. IPL Boss' criminal past may well see him out of BCCI which would actually be a good thing for both BCCI and world cricket as well.

Maybe instead of 1 tournament that is 6 weeks it will become 2 tournaments that are 4 weeks each.

Doubt it'll ever be twice a year.

BTW, I did want to post an IPL post-mortem thread. I guess this'll do as well.

Mishra, Chawla and Ojha have been very impressive. Spin bowling is one area we may not be too weak in once Kumble retires. Hopefully that's still some time away. Especially Chawla, who's converting me with every game. In an interview with Sangakkara, he was all poraise for Chawla, and it was genuine praise, not 'he's in my team so I'll hype him up a bit' praise. Ojha hasn't had the wickets, but he's bowled well.

Kumble hasn't been at his best these last 4-5 months. I know he's had to bowl on some pretty flat pitches but maybe his bowling is finally starting to go into decline. He's serving up quite a lot of loose balls these days, which is most unlike him.

After a few horror games, he's been the major reason why Bangalore are being competitive and winning matches recently in the IPL. ANd that from a man, I don't think has played T20 before the tournament.

IMO, he's actually getting better with age. His fielding has been exemplary, batting's getting grittier, and the ball is now actually starting to turn square.
