Windies player ratings
9- Edwards. The best he has ever bowled in a test match. Pace, accuracy, stamina, heart. The Windies will be hoping for more of the same.
8.5- Chanderpaul. The Windies' rock. Again. Once he gets past 20, he's almost impossible to get out. Will be dissapointed with his second innings dismissal, however.
7- Bravo. So gifted, but often so frustrating. Batted like a dream in the first innings before (typically) giving his wicket away. Bowled with heart and his catching was breathtaking. The best athlete in world cricket.
6.5- Morton. Fought hard in the first innings before throwing his wicket away at a crucial time. Has guts and determination, but probably lacks a bit of class at the top level.
6.5- Sammy. Becoming a reliable performer. Nothing spectacular, but always gives 100%. Fielding is just a notch below Bravo's.
6- Ramdin. Played a poor shot to get out in the first innings, but his 'keeping was excellent, and he played a fighting knock second time around.
5.5- Powell. Bowled poorly in Australia's first innings, where he couldn't find a length at all. Was better second time around, but he remains an enigma.
5- Devon Smith. He shows glimpses of being a decent test opening batsman, but these glimpses are few and far between, and he must be running out of chances by now.
4.5- Sarwan. Captained pretty well, but batting was his typical fare against the Aussies- Coming out all guns blazing and looking a million dollars, before playing a soft shot and getting out. Needs to bat with more responsibility.
4.5- Jaggernauth. Showed some promise, but was mauled by Symonds in Australia's second innings. Needs to accept that wickets at test level will be harder to come by than in first class cricket, and show more patience.
4- Parchment. Helped provide the Windies with a solid start in the first innings, but is probably a bit out of his depth at test level. His main contribution was in the field, where he was excellent.
As a team, they played well, but they need to learn to win the crucial moments in a game. The signs are looking good, however.

Yeah, he'll only learn if the WI selectors decide to ditch their usual policy of giving a spinner 1 match at a time!

Jaggers has been dropped from the squad, not just the xi. They have kept the other spinner Benn though.
Gayle is definitely back for the next match, but Chattergoon is out.

Compared to other Windies spinners of recent times, Jaggernauth at least has some potential. I hope they don't discard him for good based on one test against Australia.

More than the players, I'd bet.

My team from that squad:
Gayle

It is a shame about Samuels. He'd be a lot better than Morton at four. Has his appeal got any chance of being successful?

Re: Windies player ratings
I doubt it. I think we have lost him for 2 years.
Incidentally, they have explained the Xavier Marshall pick, saying he has matured since his debut at the age of 18 and that he is there to contend for a spot rather than gather experience.

Sammy hasn't done anything wrong. I know he's nothing spectacular, but he's a commited, hard working pro and the Windies need players like him in their side.
