The Windies

Post by Henry on Sun 25 May 2008, 20:41

This is the most spirited, enthusiastic, and alert Windies team i've seen for 13 years. Some of their fielding has been outstanding, and the bowling has shown good discipline. All they need is one more world class bat and they'll be seriously competetive again.

So when Gayle comes back they'll be having a tilt at the No1 spot.

I wonder when Barath will make the step up. Problem is, by the time he does, Chanderpaul will be on the verge of retirement and they'll be a lot worse off.

I can't believe how well Fidel's doing. Has he finally turned the corner? He'll probably get injured sooner or later.

People said the Windies were doomed when Lara retired. They'll find a way. Hopefully by the time Shiv retires, Sarwan and Gayle will have matured and be producing consistent runs.

It's a rare thing, but I agree with Trev. The Windies fielding has been outstanding (the only negative I can think of was Ronnie Sarwan's drop, when he was teetering on the boundary rope, off Roy) and their ground fielding has been very sharp. And the form of the bowlers belies their current Test averages. Edwards (in both innings) and Powell in the 2nd innings, have been particularly impressive.

If they get up, it will be a huge boost of confidence for a previously underperforming group of cricketers (Shiv and Sarwan aside).

I think that Dyson has had a big influence upon them. Also there is a school of thought that the team is more united now that Lara has gone. And they know they can't rely on him anymore so maybe each individual is giving more. Their fielding has been generally great and their bowling has surprised. Can their batsmen show the necessary resilience and display enough skill to steal a win?

If we have to lose to anyone, I'd rather it was the Windies.

Yeah the bowling is looking good apart from the lack of faith in spinners, the fielding has been brilliant as our team is very young and we have some sensational athletes (Bravo, Sammy, Morton and Parchment are all natural athletes).

The batting has a long long long way to go unfortunately, though having Gayle and Chattergoon back to open the batting will be a relief.

If we manage to beat Australia with Devon Smith, Parchment and Morton in the team, it will be a miracle.

If we manage to beat anyone with MacGill and Hodge in the team, it's a miracle.

So unless it's a draw, this Test will see a miracle of sorts.
