Enduring mysteries

Post by Lara Lara Laughs on Thu 22 May 2008, 20:46

Why has Dawn French not had a heart attack yet?

What's the point of Chihuahuas?

How does Jimmy Anderson keep getting picked?

Why do inflammable and flammable mean the same thing?

What's wrong with Kamran Akmal's face?

Others?

Why do 24 hour stores have locks on the doors ?

Why isn't there a shorter word for abbreviation?

Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?

Why do you feel a couple of pounds lighter after a big poo?

Why did they put an "s" in the word lisp? Cruel people.

If meteors fall, why do so many sportsmen enjoy a meteoric rise?

In reverse order:

1. navel
2. what comes down must have gone up
3. because they are happy that way
4. onomatapoeia
5. big poo = couple of pounds
6. cultural expectations of the 50s
7. there is: shorter
8. to deter the time bandits
9. a matter of opinion
10. in as in "into" Why does restive mean restless?
11. because the others keep getting crocked
12. their penis
13. fear of Lenny's mouth-to-mouth

Next.

Well, onomatapoeiae by definition are a bit subjective IMO. I mean 'Whoosh' sounds more like 'Wwwwwbbbbsssssshhhhhhhh' to me, but some arrogant so-and-so thought his phonetics were so much better than everyone else that he'd coin the spelling. Qunt.

Don't you mean onomatapoeiata? *runs for it*

Another one is the sound of willow on leatherbound cork or alloconsistency. Someone said (Andy) Pick had the best name for it. But is that true?
